SSC CHSL Notification 2026 Out for 2536 Posts: Apply Online, Eligibility, Dates, Syllabus

Introduction

The SSC CHSL Notification 2026 has been released by the Staff Selection Commission for the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026. In simple words, this is the yearly exam through which 12th-pass candidates can get central government clerical jobs such as Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) and Data Entry Operator (DEO).

The SSC CHSL Notification 2026 was issued on 7 September 2026 under Advertisement No. HQ-C1102/5/2026-C-1. About 2,536 tentative vacancies have been announced. These numbers can change later after departments confirm their actual requirement, so treat 2,536 as the current official figure, not the final locked number.

If you have passed Class 12 and fall in the 18–27 age group, this is one of the most important government job notifications of the year. Applications are open only online on the SSC website. The last date to submit the form is 7 October 2026, 11:00 PM.

Important note

Dates, vacancies, fees, exam schedule and eligibility can change through a corrigendum. The figures given here are based on the SSC CHSL Notification 2026 available at the time of writing. For the last word, always check the official website https://ssc.gov.in/ and the latest notification PDF before you apply or pay any fee.

What posts are there in SSC CHSL?

CHSL is not one single job. It is a common exam for a few Group C posts in ministries, departments, offices, and some constitutional or statutory bodies.

  1. Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA)
This is the main clerical post. Work usually includes file work, data entry, noting, drafting, and office support. Pay is Level-2: ₹19,900 – ₹63,200.
  2. Data Entry Operator (DEO)
This post needs faster and more accurate computer work. Pay is Level-4 (₹25,500 – ₹81,100) or Level-5 (₹29,200 – ₹92,300), depending on the department.
  3. Data Entry Operator Grade ‘A’
Similar to DEO, generally in Pay Level-4: ₹25,500 – ₹81,100.

These are all-India service liability posts. That means you can be posted anywhere in India, not only in your home state.

Vacancy details: why “tentative” matters

As per the SSC CHSL Notification 2026, SSC has announced approximately 2,536 vacancies. The Commission itself says the final number will come after user departments check their documents. Post-wise and category-wise tables will be updated later under Candidate’s Corner > Tentative Vacancy on the SSC website.

Compared with recent years, this year’s opening figure is lower than 2025 (around 3,131 tentative). That does not mean you should skip the exam. CHSL still remains one of the few large 12th-pass central government recruitments. Vacancy figures in SSC exams often move a little after the first notice.

Do not wait for the “final vacancy PDF” to start the form. Apply if you are eligible. Vacancy updates do not reopen eligibility.

Eligibility

You must satisfy all three: nationality, age, and education.

Nationality
You should be an Indian citizen, or fall under the other categories allowed by the Government of India (as listed in the official notice). Most applicants are Indian citizens.

Age limit (as on 1 August 2026)

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Maximum age: 27 years
  • Eligible date of birth: 2 August 1999 to 1 August 2008 (both dates included)

The date of birth on your Class 10 certificate is treated as final. SSC does not accept a later request to change it.

Age relaxation is available as per government rules for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, and some women categories such as widows or divorced women, subject to the notice. Check the official PDF for the exact extra years for your category. Do not assume relaxation if your certificate is incomplete.

Educational qualification (as on 7 October 2026)
For LDC/JSA and most DEO posts:

  • Passed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent from a recognised board.

For some specified DEO / DEO Grade ‘A’ posts (for example in certain ministries mentioned in the notice):

  • Class 12 in Science stream with Mathematics.

If you are appearing in Class 12, you can still apply, but you must have the required qualification by 7 October 2026. If you do not get the certificate by that date, you can be rejected later even if you clear the exam.

No job experience is required.

Application fee

SSC JE 2026
SSC JE 2026 Explained: Job Profile, Salary, Eligibility, Syllabus & More

As per the usual SSC CHSL rule followed in this cycle:

  • General / OBC / EWS male candidates: ₹100
  • Women candidates, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen: No fee

Pay only through the official SSC payment options. Do not use any private “form filling centre” link. Keep the payment receipt and application printout.

How to apply online for SSC CHSL 2026

Apply only at https://ssc.gov.in/.

  1. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) if you do not already have it.
  2. Log in and open Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026.
  3. Fill personal details, education, category, and exam city preferences.
  4. Upload photo and signature in the exact size mentioned in the notice.
  5. Preview the form carefully. Name, date of birth, category and photo mistakes are hard to fix later.
  6. Pay the fee (if applicable) and submit.
  7. Download and save the final application.

Photo and signature tips: Use a recent clear photo. Do not wear a cap or dark glasses. Signature should be on white paper with black ink. Blurred or tiny photos are a common reason for later trouble at the exam centre.

Correction window: From 14 to 16 October 2026 you can correct some fields and pay correction charges if required. Do not depend on this window. Fill correctly the first time.

Selection process

SSC CHSL 2026 has two computer-based tiers, then skill/typing test and document verification.

Tier-I
Objective paper. Four parts:

  • English Language
  • General Intelligence
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • General Awareness

Each part has 25 questions for 50 marks. Total 100 questions, 200 marks. Time is 60 minutes (extra time for scribe-eligible candidates). There is negative marking of 0.50 mark for each wrong answer.

Tier-II
Also computer-based. It includes modules on Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning, English, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge, and then a skill/typing test depending on the post.

  • LDC/JSA: typing test
  • DEO: data entry skill test

Only qualifying the written papers is not enough. If your typing or data-entry speed is below the required standard, you will not get the post even with a good written score.

Document verification and medical fitness come after the exams. For some departments such as Border Roads Organisation, extra physical standards can apply and some posts may be only for male candidates. Read that part of the PDF if you want those vacancies.

Salary

Starting basic pay looks modest on paper, but it is a central government job with DA, HRA, travel allowance, pension benefits under the applicable rules, paid leave, and promotion chances. LDC/JSA starts at Level-2. DEO starts higher at Level-4 or Level-5.

For many 12th-pass students, CHSL is a stable first government job. Some candidates later prepare for CGL or other exams while working.

Who should apply, and who should wait

Apply if:

  • You have passed or will pass Class 12 by 7 October 2026.
  • Your age is between 18 and 27 years as on 1 August 2026, or you have valid relaxation.
  • You can practise typing / data entry along with the written exam.
  • You are ready for posting anywhere in India.

Be careful if:

  • Your 12th result will come after 7 October 2026.
  • You cannot meet the Science-with-Maths condition and you are targeting only those specific DEO posts.
  • You have not checked your category certificate dates.

Syllabus

Do not download ten “complete syllabus” files. The paper stays close to this.

English (Tier-I)
Spot the error, fill in the blank, synonyms, antonyms, idioms, one-word, spelling, improvement of sentences, active-passive, direct-indirect, cloze test, and a short passage. They test school-level English, not literature.

General Intelligence
Analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, blood relation, direction, ranking, venn, odd one out, paper folding, mirror, embedded figure, and a little verbal logic. If a puzzle takes five minutes, skip it in the real exam.

Quantitative Aptitude
Number system, simplification, HCF-LCM, percentage, ratio, average, profit-loss, simple and compound interest, time-work, time-speed-distance, mensuration (2D first, then basic 3D), data interpretation, and a little algebra and geometry of Class 10 level. CHSL maths is not CAT maths. Accuracy beats fancy tricks.

General Awareness
Static GK plus last 8–10 months of current affairs. History, polity, geography, economy basics, science around daily life, awards, books, sports, and government schemes. Do not try to “finish GK”. Keep a short daily note.

Tier-II extra
Same subjects go a little deeper. Computer module is practical: input-output devices, MS Office idea, internet, email, shortcuts, memory, and basics of cyber safety. Then typing / DEST. For LDC/JSA, English typing around 35 wpm or Hindi around 30 wpm is the usual test people prepare for. For DEO, key-depression speed is higher. Confirm the exact figure from the latest notice before you lock your practice target.

That is the map. Anything beyond this is extra, not compulsory.

A plan I would follow from today

Today is mid-September. The form closes on 7 October. Exam date is still open. So split the work in two: finish the form now, build the habit for the paper at the same time.

This week (till 22 September)
Fill the form. Print it. Then give 2 hours a day:

  • 30 minutes Maths (simplification + percentage)
  • 30 minutes Reasoning (series + analogy)
  • 20 minutes English (error spotting + one passage)
  • 20 minutes GK (one newspaper short notes)
  • 20 minutes typing

Next two weeks (23 September – 7 October)
Keep the same 2 hours, but add one previous-year paper every Sunday. Do not check the phone in those 60 minutes. After the paper, write only three lines: which section ate time, which topic is weak, what you will do tomorrow.

After the form is gone (October–till admit card)
Raise it to 3 hours if you can.

  • Mon/Wed/Fri: Maths + English
  • Tue/Thu/Sat: Reasoning + GK + Computer
  • Daily: 20–30 minutes typing
  • Sunday: full Tier-I mock

When I coach myself through a paper like this, I stop adding new books after two sources. One maths book, one reasoning book, one English practice set, and monthly current affairs. More books do not mean more marks. Repeating the same type of question does.

If you work or study during the day, use early morning. Phone on silent. One notebook for mistakes. That notebook is more useful than any new PDF.

Last 15 days before Tier-I
No new chapter. Only revision, mocks, and weak topics from your mistake book. Sleep matters more than a midnight video lecture.

Small things that save you later

Keep Class 10 and 12 PDFs, caste or EWS paper, photo and signature in one folder. Name the files properly. Use the same mobile and email that is in your SSC registration. If the photo is dark or cropped at the chin, take a new one this weekend.

And open only ssc.gov.in. Random “apply here” buttons on other pages have wasted many evenings.

Documents to keep ready

  • Class 10 certificate (for date of birth)
  • Class 12 mark sheet and certificate
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD), if applicable
  • Photo and signature in prescribed format
  • Aadhaar and active mobile/email used in OTR
  • Ex-serviceman or other relaxation documents, if any

Keep scanned copies in the exact size SSC asks. Last-day upload errors waste the whole form.

Official links

Always open these links yourself. Do not apply on lookalike websites.

Conclusion

The SSC CHSL Notification 2026 is still one of the better doors for a 12th-pass student who wants a central government desk job. The notice is out, about 2,536 tentative posts are on the table, and the form window is open till 7 October 2026, 11:00 PM. Fee can be paid till 8 October 2026, 11:00 PM.

If I were applying this year, I would not wait for the “final vacancy list.” I would finish a clean form this week, save the printout, and start two habits together: one short mock every week and 20 minutes of typing every day. Marks get you through Tier-I. Typing or data-entry speed decides whether the post actually becomes yours.

Read your age, 12th year, and category certificate once more before you submit. Then leave the rumour pages alone and keep an eye only on the Commission.
